SUFFOLK YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE

DIRECTING BURSARY 2008

Bursary available

In memory of its founder and Director Ray Dyer, Suffolk Young People’s Theatre Summer School is offering a Director’s Bursary for someone between the ages of 20 and 30.

What is Suffolk Young People’s Theatre?

Suffolk Young People’s Theatre is a three week Summer School for young people aged between 14 and 21 years of age.  Auditions are held earlier in the year, usually over the May Bank Holiday weekend.  No charge is made to the successful young people who are selected to join the Company for that year; all that is asked for is commitment.  This is our 30th year and we are delighted that once again we are back in the recently refurbished Theatre Royal here in Bury St Edmunds, performing My Fair Lady.

What will be involved?

You will be directing the 2008 production of My Fair Lady which will be on at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds.

You will need to be available to lead rehearsals Monday to Friday in the two weeks commencing Monday 14th July daily from 9.30 am – 5.00 pm and also be available for the technical and dress rehearsals on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th July.

Location

All of the rehearsals and performances are held in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

How will you be supported?

You will be given a one off payment of £500.00.  This will be to cover your expenses and time.  You will be supported by an experienced team which includes a professional Choreographer and Musical Director.  The Production Manager will also be available to give daily support and advice.

How to you apply?

Applicants must be aged between 20 and 30 years old and have significant experience of theatre direction either as part of your formal education/training or as an extra curricula activity.

Please write to the address overleaf with a curriculum vitae and a statement (covering no more than one side of A4) detailing:

·        why you are interested in the bursary;

·        how your experience makes you the ideal candidate;

·        how the opportunity will help you develop your own skills and practice

Deadline for submission is:  Friday 23 May 2008

Please send your CV and supporting statement (including all contact details) by post or email to:
