Dear Ray
Firstly, I
want to say thank you for the kind invitation to the SYPT Silver Jubilee
Celebration. I am so sorry I cannot attend and disappointed that I will miss
your special ‘send-off’,
but as you know I am a few hundred miles away in
Paris. However, the next best thing is that Mum and Dad will be attending on
my behalf.
Secondly,
although I have written to Brian & Co. expressing gratitude to all those
involved in SYPT over the years, I felt you thoroughly deserved an extra
special mention. I want to say thank you for the incredible opportunities
you have given to so many youngsters through the unique experience of summer
school. I think you already know that I have the fondest memories of these
times, and I will never forget your huge contribution that made it all
possible; not only your talent, professionalism and discipline as a
director, but also your fun, warmth and dedication as an individual. You
have an ability to bring out the very best in people... to instil confidence
and strength that some of us never knew we had, in order to grow and realise
our full potential. It is truly inspirational and of course
I speak from my
own experiences of SYPT; the feeling of being terrified at having only 2
weeks to achieve what seems the impossible, to a feeling of absolute
empowerment when performing in an amazing production at the end of it. It is
an experience I have drawn upon many times since. I know that some past
members have gone on to great things in the arts world, but for those of us
who took alternative avenues it is still something to be treasured. On a
very personal note, thank you for having faith in me and for the fantastic
shows, which I feel proud and privileged to have been a par of... they will
be with me forever.
Finally,
may I wish you, cast, crew and all those behind the scenes every success and
enjoyment for the run of ‘West
Side
Story III’
and for a
truly memorable Silver Jubilee; I will be thinking of you.
CONGRATULATIONS & HAPPY 25
BIRTHDAY

Dear
Daphne & Ray,
I
saw John and Meg the other weekend and they gave me your lovely invitation
to the S.Y.P.T. jubilee celebrations. It was so lovely of you to invite me
and Johnny along but we are heartbroken as and old friend of ours is
getting married in Hereford that weekend. If there’s any chance of us
getting there then we will, ~but I imagine it’s pretty unlikely. I
would so LOVE tohave~seeiieveryone-~againafter all these years,
especially Laura. Would you please send her, and anyone that might
remember me, my very special love.
The
S.Y.P.T. has such a very special place in my heart, it gave me confidence
and a sense of theatrical family fun at a time when I most needed it, and
many of the skills I learned still stand me in good stead to this day.
Thank you for everything, and wishing you lots of love,
Lucy Clibbon

A
thousand thanks to the Theatre Royal
THE Theatre Royal has received a grand boost thanks to
youthful actors.
The Suffolk Young People’s Theatre has
donated £1,000 to the Theatre Royal’s £6.4 million
appeal to restore its former Georgian glory.
Since a group of school teachers from across west Suffolk
formed the group 25 years ago it has staged 23 productions
at the Theatre Royal. Last year the theatre company, made up
of secondary school pupils, performed a highly successful
version of West Side Story.
This
year’s production of Me and My Girl in August may be
the last at the theatre before restoration work is carried
out. All of the company’s productions are rehearsed in
just three weeks over the summer holidays.
Ray Dyer, director of the company for the past 25 years,
said:
“The support we have received from the Theatre Royal has
been very much appreciated. Since 1979 more than 1,000 young
people have endured the short, sharp theatrical shock that
has become a legend and many have gone onto a successful
career in the arts. In acknowledgement of our
appreciation of The Theatre Royal we decided to make a
contribution of £1,000 to its current restoration appeal.
This donation is largely affordable due to the great success
of the last year’s 25th anniversary production of West Side
Story”.
